Piyaporn Pavilion hotel, Mae Sai, Chiang Rai

The Piyaporn Hotel is in a good location, just off the main street of Mae Sai, and fairly close to the border crossing for anybody coming or going into Myanmar. The hotel looks good from the street, or in the lobby, but when you get up to the rooms it is about 20 years older instantly…… Old dated wooden furnishings, dark rooms, tiny TV screen. The Wifi is a bit slow, and if you cannot connect try swapping any o/O in the password for 0 ….seems they cannot differentiate letter O and zero ! Had to query reception to get it right.  Overall, it is an OK place for one night, which is all most people will spend in Mae Sai.

The hotel does have a restaurant but we did not eat there as it closed too early for us ! If you do want to eat late, there are many food stalls set up on the main road towards the border but not many restaurants open …Mae Sai closes early ! We went to a restaurant almost under the bridge to Myanmar…walk up the road towards Myanmar and veer left just before the Thai checkpoint.

Date of stay : September 2016

How much ? 899 baht/night

What’s to see ?

The “Northern Most of Thailand ‘ (sic) and the border crossing are about 300m away, as is Wat Phra That Doi Wao (but also up 200 steps!) which gives a decent panoramic view over into Myanmar.
