What a happy bunch of garden gnomes, and why would n’t they be happy with a view like this :
I was driving north along the Northwest Coastal Highway when I saw some caravans and mobile homes parked on top of a flat topped mesa-like hill rising out of the flat plain, so I decided to check it out as a possible camp for the night. It was too open and exposed for a tent or swag so I drove on, but not before I found these fellows :
I don’t know how or why it started, but over the years travellers have been leaving garden gnomes and other figures at this scenic lookout, some with messages of remembrance for departed friends and family …..just one of the many roadside oddities you see while driving in Australia.
The location of “Gnomesville” is at the Gladstone scenic lookout, 51 km north of the Overlander roadhouse . (25 59 09 S 114 17 55 E )
