MISSION BEACH YHA-2

Just a quick review of the “Mission Beach Retreat” YHA where I stayed recently.

It is only a small place, around 30 beds, so it is a lot friendlier than most hostels, so the managers seemed to know every guests name. It’s got a mix of rooms, from doubles to multibed dorms.

The room I was in had 1 double and 3 single beds, so it could have been a family room too. One thing to note if you are a bit shy about sharing a room with a stranger of opposite sex is that they only have mixed dorms.
The bathrooms are shared between rooms, so there was a bit of a wait sometimes ! On that subject, the cleaning is done by a couple of the resident backpackers on the usual ‘work for your bed’ arrangement, and they did forget to top up the toilet paper ….a potentially awkward situation that should n’t arise !!
There are 2 lounge areas with big screen TVs, one has satellite TV and the other just DVDs and free to air TV.

The kitchen is quite good, big enough for the number of guests and fully equipped. There is a small supermarket nearby, or a full sized Woolies at South Mission Beach if you have transport.
The hostel is 1 street back from the beach, so it is just a short walk to the beach.
All things considered, it’s a very nice place to stay, good value at $25/night. 8/10
