Thaipusam 2016, Little India, Singapore

When I was in Singapore recently I stayed in “Little India”, and by good luck timed it to coincide with the Thaipusam Festival which was held nearby.
Thaipusam_Singapore_blog-5Hindu devotees make a pilgrimage from one temple to another about 4 kms away, many with some rather bizarre and seemingly masochistic body piercings, even to the point of pulling chariots behind them, attached to hooks in their back.

Apparently they prepare for this with a month of prayers, sleeping on a hard floor, abstaining from sex, and a vegetarian diet !

Kids, don’t try this at home !
